What kind of fish and aquarium is best for a college dorm?

I'll be heading off to college in the fall and living in the residence halls there. My roommate and I were thinking about getting fish, because that's the only pet allowed and we want something to cheer us up like that. Housing only allows up to 10 gallon tanks, not that we want something huge, it won't fit. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on what kind of tank to get and what kinds of fish. We were thinking maybe those glofish. We definitely want something reasonably cheap but, a tank that's not too expensive but will last, and fish that won't die and make us cry in the first week. Help is much appreciated.

Get a 10-gallon aquarium and some fancy goldfish. With goldfish, you won't have to worry about the heater at all - you can keep the water at room temperature - this will make it much easier.

5 gallon tank. Betta fish. Needs a heater.

Betta fish do not suck, if you keep them healthy they are very lively, colourful, pretty fish. They need heated water to display very well. Plus they are fun when they see their reflection and flare. You can feed them all sorts of foods... if you are boring you can just stick with betta pellets but they also will eat bloodworms (live or frozen), and other stuff too... mosquito larvae are a favourite but can be messy to try to do live.. lol. Mine love bloodworms.

No fish has a 15 second memory, that's been disproven, they all can learn though some fish are more "personable" than others. Bettas and oscars are known for being very personable but you can't get an oscar!!! Oscars require 75 gallons at least!!! Wayyy too big for your college dorm.

get a 10 gallon. filter. heater. thermometer. etc. etc. ....
cycle your tank keep it good running and clean.......

you can get:

tetra
guppie
molly
platies
one fish thats 4" or less
snails (when you establish waste and such at the bottom)

all the above fish are very colorful and will defiantly brighten up the place and set a happy mood

if you have any questions please PLEASE contact me because I don't want you guys to cry in a week either

Get yourself any new glass 10 gallon tank at a pet store. Not expensive. Filter, heater, deco. Ask someone to help you get started with everything you need. Pretty much any common tropical freshwater fish will not die unless youre not caring for it properly.
