What kind of environment in a book about magic is better?

Now, I am 13 and I want to write a book so I thought first I will spend some years just developing the storyline for some books and then I asked to myself, If I am going to write a book, and hopefully turn it into a movie, should I have an environment in which the wizarding community is scarce or hidden from our world, or should I create a whole new world in which magic is common?

Both have been done, and both work. I think you should spend a month exploring one possibility, then a month exploring the other possibility. Choose the one that has the most meaning to *you* and that will be the one that will become the best story.

And, that time might not be wasted -- a lot of "magic stories" have a "portal" or door between a "mundane" world, and a huge whole world of magic. (Harry Potter, Howl's Moving Castle, the Narnia books, Xanth books, etc.)
