Hi There,

I've been dealing with on and off low back pain for several years; it kind of comes and goes, and when it comes, it feels like i've 'strained' my lower back (behind the lower pelvis) and it's hard to stand up straight and walk. Happened after i did a quick stop during skiing 5 years ago--i think i wrenched the lower back when i did so. I've seen chiropractors who recommend strengthening exercises, etc...Haven't had an MRI, but i think it wasn't recommended. Could it be a herniated disc?

Anyway, it flared up again last week, and i spent the better part of that week not able to walk well, stand up very straight, etc. In certain positions i don't feel it at all, but in certain positions i really do. Really restricts mobility. *Anyway*, i feel like i should see a doc again, but i really don't know what kind...! Chiropractor? Orthopedist? Just want to make sure i'm doing all i can for it...I guess there's not much to do outside strengthening and--if necessary--surgery, right?

Thank you so much for any advice!!!!

I'd see a neurosurgeon.
They will order an MRI and a few other tests and be able to tell what is wrong and if you may need surgery.

The first step would really be getting an MRI and getting a diagnosis - once you know what you are dealing with then you should decide which type of doctor to see. Most doctors and chiropractors can recommend MRIs - it depenRAB on your insurance though so check that out first.

There are lots of options out there once you have your MRI so let us know when you get the results. You will get lots of really great advice.

Best of luck.

My advice would be: go and see Spinal Ortho Dr. Neurosurgeon usually you go and see if they found a problems already and nerves involved...
I am not sure about your insurance, but how most insurances work is this way: first ex-ray. They see nothing most of the time, b/c exrays usually are good for broken bones or some arthrities. And if you agree with it and you are doing better and don't come back to your DR, so this be it.
If you come back with same problems - than they have to order an MRI for you.
So find yourself a good Spinal Ortho and go from there.
If you don't insist that you do have a problem, they will get away without MRI once again...
best of luck to you...:)
