What kind of bicycle should I get?

I really want/need a bike to get myself to and from school and work since I don't have a car. I would like a sturdy but light-weight bike that is meant for riding around the streets. I'm not sure how much bikes are, but I don't wanna be spending too much. I am 16 and a female if that will help any.
Any names of bikes or websites where I can find bikes would be greatly appreciated

Look at some of the Forge bikes, you want a hybrid street bike. Mountain bikes are heavy and inefficient on the road.
