What kind of amp do I need? How many channels and all that stuff?

I have a pair of Orion Cobalt 12" subs and I have a friend selling me a Kicker 400W amp for $150. For starters, I know its a good price and kicker is good and his is currently hooked up to two 12" Alpines. I want to know how many channels would I need for my subs and that kind of stuff so if I shop elsewhere I know what I need to find. All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :)
