what kind (brand) of Oil FILTER for my Toyota Sienna?

Cheap unknown brands are the ones to avoid. Toyota would want you to buy theirs at the dealer. Those tend to be expensive & no different than an good brand. Fram, Purolator, & K&N are my preferences. Changing oil yourself is easy & often rewarding. Having the ability to change your own oil when you need it done is the reason why I do it.

Aftermarket oil filters cost less each but each model is made to fit as many different cars as possible. This saves money, but, can lead to designs that don't meet the precise spec of your vehicle. The OEM filter is designed to meet the spec of your vehicle. Due to limited supplies and gouging OEM filters often cost more than Aftermarket filters. The major differences are the amount and shape of the filter element within the housing, occasionally the presence of a anti-drain-back valve, and fittment of the threads on the filter to oil mounting of the engine. OEM filters will have the best fittment and a anti-drain-back valve if it is needed. Often times Aftermarket and OEM filters come off the same assembly line but occasionally they are made to different spec. The best way is go to the part store and ask a sales person to open boxes and show you the differences.

Fram is a common name but i don't think they are much better than most. They have "better" grades of some popular numbers for more money. But again ? AC-Delco and Purolator are good. Purolator has premium ones too. Auto Zone carries Bosch. Wix are one of the best but aren't easy to find. Check independent parts stores if you can find them or online houses. Besides materials and quality control, the paper element is the key to a good filter. Better filters use paper that traps microscopically smaller particles thereby giving your engine more protection. Just about all filters have a by-pass that lets the oil circulate freely when the filter gets loaded. A better filter doesn't last longer, just keeps the oil cleaner so still change regularly.
