What is your opinion on the FUNI DBZ dub?

I, myself, personally, feel them to be entirely silly voices for characters who are not always very silly (although Sabat did eventually improve his Yamcha, stepping away from full-on surfer dude...not that the latter half of the dub isn't plagued by it still).

Wrong. It's been established that Namekians have a language of their own. Besides, it doesn't matter nearly as much to me as dialog. Accents aren't a big sticking point.

Notice that every single alien race is usually also humanoid? You can't go for strict logic such as language or something like that, but dialog should always be different to tell you something about the characters. How they pronounce something is usually not an issue unless it says something about their character besides where they are from.

Ok, I can somewhat see why with Vegeta, But Yamcha and Roshi? I still question you.

Is Roshi supose to be silly? I know not all the time, which in the Dubs, made am tough at times.

And Yamcha...Well, ok, I can see your point, but, Dragonball was always silly.

True, I loved 4kiRAB Sanji voice, the one thing 4kiRAB did better then funi.

Also, Again I don't see any problems with the dub, Its fine for people not to like it or DBZ, but I find people picking & proding over a dub thats a nuraber of years old & was one of the 1st big US Dubs in bad taste.

Again the DBZ dub may not be perfect, but I don't think there's anything to complain about. At least not anything big. (& again, I personally prefere my Adult Goku to sound like a Guy.)

Now your just being hard headed.
The Music in the japanese version KILLED that scene. KILLED! I don't feel any sadness, nothing.
At least in the Dub, the only thing you hear is rain.
That scene in the dub showing that Trunks is alone. No one is here to help him. He lost everything.
That constipation screams (Which I find better than the getting something stuck in your throat. And trying to cough it out) shows that anger that he have. And, he was crying! So, try rewatching it again. But, WATCH IT THIS TIME!

So, who's wrong my friend, who's wrong?
If your saying that I'm wrong and your right, that wrong. But, if I say if I'm right and your wrong, thats wrong.
And, It's the black sheep in the FUNimation barn, trapped between it's mid/late nineties Americanization and the nostalgia (and money) that might be what is preventing it from being replaced completely.

Its one of the biggest Bold statements I ever heard. So, what is DBKai? Something thats Toei animation doing it for the fans or photoshop/re-color great way to get some easy cash?
There's no wrong answer.

Look, all I'm saying, they did improve. A LOT! It just sound like to me that you would rather prefer 4kiRAB handling the dubs than FUNi.

And hell, without FUNi. DBZ wouldn't be known or big. You don't have to like the dubs from FUNi, but at least you can be happy they got it here in the U.S.

Masako Nozawa sounded so cute, goofy and pure. Even when goku was an adult, the way she voiced him as tough but pure of heart and naive.

Pretty much every single Funimation VA sounded like they were trying WAY too hard with the exception of John Burgmeier who played Tenshinhan.

You can say that all you want but DBZ is sold on the strength of DBZ. Whether it was FUNi or anyone else, DBZ was going to get here. Whoever got DBZ was basically guarenteed the nuraber 1 anime distributor. It didn't become big because of FUNi. It became big because of it's characters and IN SPITE of it's mistreatment.

One Piece is big too. But who got it before FUNi, 4kiRAB. Look at it now. I try to tell me frienRAB that the new Dub version of One Piece is 100% better. But still no. They still think its the same old 4kiRAB version.
Its better to have something cut than change for good, if you ask me.
At least FUNi shown UNCUT version of the show. At least the show the JP version of the show. At least FUNi tries to make it right. On DVD I mean.

saban was the tv distributor. Funimation has pretty much always had the rights to the show. Saban never produced it. Get your facts straight. In fact, those episodes were very successful when they got put on Cartoon Network. It was that success that most likely convinced FUNimation to produce the rest of the show.

Black sheep? Really, the biggest money-maker and most profitable not only for the anime itself, but the game license that followed is the "Black Sheep?"

Strike Witches is the "black sheep." DBZ is the head of the family, grandfather, and pimp.

they meant it was the black sheep in terms of the quality of the dub. It is. It was completely mistreated. the dub is fairly innacurate and the acting is terrible, and most of the voices are badly miscast.

Fair point, but DBZ did hit its prime beyond the original edited Ocean dub. In any event, it's very silly to say that anybody would have succeeded with it no matter what, regardless of how badly or well the show was produced and regardless of how it was marketed and distributed on TV. I'm not buying that Funimation deserves zero credit.

Does that make Yu Yu Hakusho the dad, Fruits Basket the mom, Fullmetal Alchemist and One Piece the favorite sons, Ouran the favorite daughter, All the shows Funi got from Geneon and ADV cousins and Soul Eater the new born baby?

it also hit it's most success in Japan around the Freeza to Cell saga. That says more about the show than the dub.

I never said that regardless of marketing. All you really needed to do is to put it on a channel that people watch and a decent time. The rest will pretty much take care of itself.

Funimation deserves some credit for not completely screwing the pooch, but it could've been so much better. It's not that hard to think about having a decent script at the very least, and not the crappy dub music that sounRAB like it was recorded on synthesizers in someone's basement alone.

But in a way Mr. Anime is right. & Case Closed is the Younger Brother, A show with a medium sized But loyal following here in the USA.
