What is your opinion on the FUNI DBZ dub?

Why are we talking about One Piece on a DBZ thread, let alone that there's really no equivalent to Brooklyn Sanji with the main characters in the DBZ dub?

Although you bring up an interesting point, there are always exceptions to the rule, especially with characters like Android 13, but those are the movies.

Sorry, I thought we were still talking about accents in anime in general.

Some may say that Frieza is part of this but I digress (I still want a guy to do him)

If I may to JTP, as much as Norio Wakamoto is a god among voice acting, I really liked the idea to give the different forms of Cell a different voice each time. I mean, I just can't see a badass deep voice like that coming out of Imperfect Cell know what I mean?

When the DVRAB were released (excuse the fact they were cropped) had included the original Japanese music score which of course has moments of silence. A lot of the scenes in English do sound better with the Japanese music score in the BG especially with the silence intended. Like the scene where Vegeta is fighting Android 18 that was linked last page.

How am i being snobbish? I give credit where i think it's due and I'm not a hardcore subbie. Some english voices are better than even the originals, but at least with DB/Z/GT, i've found that to rarely be the case.

All I'm saying is your being overly harsh on a Dub thats a nuraber of years old and not nearly as bad as you say it is, I realize some of you guys don't like it, but being critical about ever little thing just seems kind of snobbish & Rude, I mean its not a BAD DUB, yea its not perfect, its not creme de la crem, but its sure as heck doesn't stink as bad as you say it does.

I doubt anyother company could have done better, Yea I know about the whole Funi VS ocean thing, personally I like both versions. In fact Im just glad I can watch DBZ in english.

But yea your being way to judgemental & Harsh man, its OK not to like the DUB somthing, but that doesn't mean you have to rip it & its VA's a new one.

i'm not being critical of every little thing. I'm being critical of some very big glaring things

I rip them a new one because it is that bad. However, if you've read the posts, i give props where it's due.

Actually, Ocean dub did do a lot better than funi. They had better actors and the voices in many cases were great. They sounded natural, and not like a cartoon voice.

Out of all of those, Freeza and maybe Recoome are the only ones I would put in comparison with Brooklyn Sanji. Especially Roshi. I mean, he's an old man, what else is he supposed to sound like? It's not like he has a Spanish accent or anything.

(Funny thing is, I would have thought Freeza sounded perfectly normal had I not heard Mayuri from Bleach playing him. At which point, my opinion of Freeza's voice drastically decreased )

OMG! Lord forbid animated characters have voices that sound like ther in a cartoon! LULZ.

OK, I get where your coming from, I respect your openion, but still think your being to hard Funi's dub of DBZ WAS NOT BAD!

Again it is imperfect (But so is everything else in the world.) but its not bad, I mean, it could have been worse...ALOT WORSE!

An old man? McFarland's done good stuff elsewhere, but whoever decided to cast Ian Corlett as an old man instead of finding an actual older man to voice the guy really shouldn't have been placed in charge of casting. Get me some Bill Jenkins on this stuff, because at least he can pull off an older man voice and be badass when the time calls for it.

But opinions and nostalgia really do make this a touchy subject...

I'm fine with them being over the top and the originals do that, but not always. You lose the dramatic tension in a scene if all you hear is a guy in a booth trying too hard.

It is a bad dub, in fact it's a horrible dub. The dialog is bad and the acting just isn't very good. You're welcome to like it, but it's like nails on a chalkboard.

The brilliance of shows like Batman: the Animated Series or justice league is that they weren't cartoon voices. They played it real.

Stephanie Nadolny's Goku is always laughing and it sounRAB like a bad Krusty the Clown.

Indeed, Because if we don't we may end up arguing another 6 pages or so, wich is somthing I don't have the Time for, You have your Openion Hobbes & I have mine, now lets put this pointless quarrel behind us!

.......but yea, Again there are worse dubs....far....far worse........

(& again I respect your openion, but think your being over the top yourself.)

and now I am done arguing! Good day gents!

Accents can be enjoyable depending on the character. Sometimes they give a character more personality, but I find that quite often they sound rather forced.

Entire monologues are still added to scenes where there were none, not that that was the point I was making (being that the dub was created with that mentality of "THEY CAN'T HANDLE SILENCE!!!" in mind).

EDIT:

I just plopped in the scene where Trunks becomes a Super Saiyan in the original Japanese version and right off the bat you can actually tell Kusao is crying, where as with the dub you've got Eric Vale either lifelessly directed, simply screaming the usual constipation screams the dub is well known for.

The battle with Gohan and Cell? Oh hell no. Not with it's pull-out-of-thin air monologues and complete lack of emotion. Masako Nozawa can have me in tears simply speaking to herself during the final KameHame-Ha struggle with Cell as Gok
