What is your opinion on cartoons that last over 100 episodes?

I say it depends on the type of cartoon. A comedy one like Family Guy and the Simpsons runs dry due to lack of jokes (something South Park hasn't suffered from), while serious shows like BTAS can run on longer as long as the plot can extend well enough.

I didn't really care for the Simpsons.

The main thing is, I only watch shows with an actual story, so trying to maintain one for over 100 episodes is really hard, since at that point, it's usually just delaying things for the sake of getting more episodes and in turn, more money. Sitcoms might be fine for hundreds of episodes, but action shows always drag and always go downhill, because you can only milk a story for so long.

Like just about everyone here has said, it depends on the show. There's shows like the original He-Man that went over 100 episodes. And watching that show as an adult, I realize that it wasn't that good of a cartoon by any means. But then there's cartoons like the 2003 TMNT, The Simpsons, Family Guy, and South Park that still put out very good episodes past 100 episodes.

To date, Marc Brown's Arthur on PBS Kids has 150 1/2 hour episodes with 5 more iSeason 13 1/2 hour episodes in the can for early 2010 and 10 more 1/2 hour episodes for Arthur Season 14 planned for the 2010-2011 season.

(For the record, Canada and/or the UK get the new Arthur episodes first nowadays before PBS Kids in the USA gets to air the episodes)

With the exception of some anime, I honestly think I've only ever watched about 4-5 cartoons that went on over 100 episodes. The two Ninja Turtle cartoons, The Simpsons, B:TAS/TNBA, and I think Gargoyles.

Granted Futurama is now bound to go on over 100 episodes thanks to the revival. I hope it can stay good.
