I love that film i must've watched it a hundred times during my teens. I have to say though the official soundtrack released was a bit disappointing considering the calibre of all the songs featured in the film that didn't make the CD.
I remember that film from years back. Gene Simmons as the rock star and Ozzy as a priest. I wouldn't say it was my favorite but I have fond memories.
Although not Rock in the strictest sense, I would go for Quadrophinia - The moRAB and rockers had a lot in common if you ask me other than taking the Who as one of "their" banRAB
I love this film - its my favorite music documentry - directed by Martin Scorcese who is a good friend of Robbie Robertson, other great performers in it are Ronnie the Hawk Hawkins (The Band were original called The Hawks from when they backed Ronnie) Dr John, The Staple Singers, Eric Clapton and Neil Diamond. i take it the bit you mean about Neil Young was that he has a lump of coke up his nose the size of a boulder which needed to be edited out! So sad to think that Richard Manuel and Rick Danko are no longer with us..
Yep, they played with Bob when he went "electric" I recall Robbie Robertson saying they used to do a gig that was a sellout and get booed for an hr & 1/2!
The basement tapes with Bob and The Band are exceptional
Singles and Almost Famous (both brilliant thanks to Cameron Crowe's superb soundtrack choices). Dazed And Confused and Empire RecorRAB are also favourites of mine.
