What Is Your Favourite Film

I love threaRAB like this because not only are they impossible to answer without going into mega listings and adding etc but they are also adaptable and constantly (in my case) changing.
I think two films that are truly outstanding although I find one difficult to watch again as it's awfully depressing are:
Shawshank Redemption. (This is wonderful and cannot be faulted)
American History X (shocking, dreadful, moving, horrific and the acting is second to none)
A more general list includes the following:
American Beauty
Scent of a woman
Clueless
Ghost
10 things I hate about you
Green Mile
Frequency
Star Wars Trilogy (original of course)
Back to the Future trilogy
Indiana Jones Trilogy
Cider House Rules
The Sting
Truly Madly Deeply
Cat on a hot tin roof
Wonderful Life
Bringing Up Baby
Naked gun (all really) and Airplane

I could go on all night. I love films of all kinRAB. Maybe we should start separate threaRAB. Things like: Best action movie. Best romantic comedy etc.... films are so different it's hard to compare them!

The Shawshank Redemption is the one film that has an emotional impact on me no matter how often I watch it. For me it rates as the most complete film I've ever seen, and is about as close to perfection as any movie has attained.

Also up there would be It's A Wonderful Life, 12 Angry Men and Brokeback Mountain. For comedy value, I'd add The Princess Bride and Groundhog day.

Wow! Guys have some major lists. I will try to narrow mine down to the ones I would watch over and over again...

Sound of Music - Doh a deer!
Fiddler on the Roof - da da dai dai!
A Walk to Remember - Sniff! sniff! sniff!
Dirty Dancing - Give me Patrick Swayze and I've had the time of my life!
Forrest Gump - Deep story
Pretty Woman - What can I say, I love love

It could get longer to include Tom & Jerry and any other cartoon for that matter!

Lord of the Rings Trilogy
The Shawshank Redemption
Paths of Glory
Strictly Ballroom
The Crow
Jezebel
Star Wars Trilogy (the originals of course!)

All to name but a few. The list could go on and on!

Good choice! I'm thinking of starting a thread to discuss the interpretation of this film. What do you think?

My favourites are
- Mulholland Drive
- Naked Lunch
- The Abyss
- Citizen Cane
- Rear Window
- Cassablanca
- Once Upon a Time in the West
- Jaws
- Mon Oncle (Jacques Tati)
- The Usual Suspects

and loaRAB more
e.g. cult movies like
- Repo Man
- Flesh for Frankenstein (Paul Morrisey)
- Memento
- Freebie and the Bean
- Dagon (it's so WET!)
- Cypher
- Dawn of the Dead (the George Romero original)
- Primer (although I don't think I could stand watching it again; it does your head in!)
- Versus (you can't go wrong with a Japanese gangster zombie samurai movie)
And I really like that Godzilla film with Mothra and the Peanut Sisters...

Just saw this post. This is one of my favourites as well. Don't think I've seen it 61 times but I never get tired of it! I love Christopher Walken's character - it's so sad what happened to him.

This film is f*cking amazing! It's so bittersweet, and you just gotta love John Candy. You also have to love John Hughes, the director, seeing as he made both this film and the genius that is Home Alone. :D

However, in stark contrast, my favourite film is a toss-up between 'The Full Monty' and 'Trainspotting' - note the Robert Carlyle connection (he is my fave actor and I'm in love with him).

Slingblade
Remains of the Day
The Meaning of Life
It's a Gift
Casino
Pulp Fiction
Papillon
The Godfather
Fargo
