What is your favourite British gangster movie?

Too right, wildhollie! There are two scenes in that film that are surely two of the greatest in ANY gangster movie, never mind just a British one. The scene where all the rival bosses are hauled in upside down on the hooks for questioning and the final scene where he's sat in the car with the IRA guys totally powerless and being driven to an unspeakable death. Jawdropping cinema.

"Long Good Friday". Magnificent.

"Lock, Stock" is very good as well, though it still mystifies me as to how Guy Ritchie can make something as good as that and then follow it up with all the other tripe he's inflicted on the movie-going public.

Nah, just your opinion there Squire. I love the film, always have. Mind you being a Who fan probably helps. Has some great moments tho. "I'll be the best f***ing seconRAB you've ever had!" BANG! :D
To be fair McVicar isn't a "gangster" movie - it's a prison film.

Anyone who can should buy James Barlow's 1968 novel 'The Burden of Proof', on which 'Villain' with Burton and McShane was based on.

A forgotten gem of a novel...
