What is your favorite animated romance in the last ten years?

I teared up with Carl and Ellie; the best part of that movie.

But all-out bawled over Jake and Rose in Homecoming.

:crying:

I'll assume you haven't seen the AD: JL episode "Furious Jealousy" during which Spud's crush Stacey admits that she does like him (while still displaying some of her past aversion to him [not wanting to be seen by others, upset stomach, etc.]). Not a complete turnaround to be sure, but it does show growth on her part.

Most of my faves have been already brought up but I'll explain why anyway:

Kim/Ron - I think what made this appealing for me was the sheer growth that Ron had to display in order for him to be appealing enough for Kim to even consider him romantically. His position as her long-time best friend didn't hurt, either.

Danny/Sam - I'll agree that, near the end of the show's run, the pairing was a bit forced, but I'll attribute that to a small number of episodes being aired in a small space of time. There were occasional hints of their eventual pairing in the first half of the series and that did appeal to me.

Jake/Rose - The fact that at the start, they both liked each other but were enemies unbeknownst to them both, was really interesting to me. The first season was hit and miss until they discovered the truth. The second season's improved quality and the focus on the relationship (on and off again and again) really cinched it for me. The finale was a bit anticlimactic, though. I wish Disney had allowed the creators to do the eps they wanted to during season two--the results could have been epic, though "Homecoming" is THE most dramatic Disney episode ever.

Aang/Katara - This romance really benefitted from an epic setting and struggle. It developed slowly and was not the focus of the series in the least. The possibility of an alternate pairing (Zuko/Katara) was even more intriguing. Plus, there were other romances around, too (Sokka/Suki, Zuko/Mai).

I'm surprised no one has brought up one of my favorites--the dual romances of Jeremy/Aelita and Ulrich/Yumi in Code Lyoko. Both were born from their adventures in Lyoko and their initial struggle to bring Aelita to the real world. Once accomplished, we saw the relationships blossom (especially that of Jeremy and Aelita) as they continued to fight XANA and discover the truth about Aelita's past. Unfortunately, most of the romantic elements of the series were dropped after season two.

Lastly, I have to include Molly (Eva)/Jordan from Oban Star Racers. Jordan's feelings for Molly are clear, and only in the last few episodes does she begin to notice. His climactic sacrifice for her is only topped by the sight of him crying as Molly streaks away from Oban.

Though their relationship was examined for only the first 15 minutes or so of the film (with THE best montage/animated sequence Pixar has ever done), it was incredibly effective. And yes, I teared up quite a bit.

Ah, 'I love you, but not when anyone's looking'. 'Guy in love with girl who treats him like the floor around a blind man's urinal's' brother from another mother. Yeah. No.

I'm no shipper but one of my favorite romances would have to be Green Lantern and Hawkgirl from JLU. It was really well developed, especially during the second season of JL. Not only was it well written but really well acted. Phil Lamar and Maria Canals really sold it especially during the Wild Card two-parter. I'm surprised no one else mentioned that one yet.:)

Agreed, they had tremendous chemistry and their relationship was so heartfelt which is why Wall-E is my 3rd favorite Pixar flick behind Finding Nemo and The Incredibles.

1. Fry and Leela. He's so determined to win her over. Bullheaded and unstoppable. It makes him very likable. As for Leela, it's understandable why she hesitates; he's an immature drip at times. But she's decent about holding him at arm's length, rather than mean and abusive.

2. Starfire and Robin. She's so innocent and earnest and he's grim and driven. Good sparks.

3. Inuyasha and Kagome. He was a real jerk but she could handle him. They're a riot together.

4. Edward Elric and Winry. Made for each other. They're an especially fun couple in the manga.

5. The Beast and Belle. Watching their relationship grow is one of the best parts of the movie. It was very well handled.

6. Aang and Katara. Really well written. I'm not much into kissyface but I loved it when they kissed at the end.

7. Astro and Cora from Astro Boy. In the movie, Astro develops a crush on this human girl, Cora, and it's easy to see why. She's a tough/smart/goodhearted girl who does not fit the usual Mary Sue stereotype, because the role is written so well, and Kristen Bell gave such a good voice performance. Never thought I'd find a robot/human romance appealing, but in this case, I do. :D

Nightcrawler and Scarlet Witch (Wolverine and the X-Men): This one I've really gotten into recently. Its nice to have a good grown up relationship in cartoons for once and theres alot of great drama between these two because of the opposit sides there on. I cant wait to see where they go in the next season.

Robin and Starfire: These two were the stars of the show for me the best Starfire episodes were the ones where they actaully played with the relationship.

Theres some anime ones I like but shippers seem to get very angry and I rather this thread not go done that path so i just wont mention them.

Peter and Lois Griffin from Family Guy. Sure, Peter's an idiot, a crappy husband and an equally crappy father and Lois could definitely do much better than him.

But in spite of all of that, at the end of the day Peter and Lois love each other unconditionally. One of my favorite episodes is "Death Lives", seeing everything Peter went through to get back to Lois and culminating in his turning down Cater Pewterschmidt's offer of a million dollars to leave and never see Lois again.

-Kim

How?

IIRC, there was an entire episode of "Danny Phantom" that had every single character talking about the relationship between Danny and Sam like it was some message board! (Must've been a slow day in the writers' room, methinks.) And then, there's that exchange on a "Kim Possible" episode:

Shego: "Where's Kimmie?"
Ron: "She's not my girlfriend!"
Shego: "Whoa. I didn't say she was."

Yeah, can you think of anything so cringeworthy on the shows featuring the couples I named?

April and Casey (TMNT 2003), particularly once the series dispensed with the "they like each other but won't admit it" aspect after "Modern Love"; once that was over and they became an actual couple, they became one of the most refreshingly real couples in television, since they were allowed to just be and evolve without the infusion of artificial "drama" that writers usually feel they have to put the characters through. Not only that, the characters managed to retain their individuality throughout the relationship, which is always a plus. Seeing them get together, become a serious couple, get engaged, and eventually married was just icing on the cake.

It was pretty obvious from the word go that Kevin and Gwen in AF and Trent and Gwen in TDA liked each other, so the ensuing romances were predictable, not to mention focused on in a little too many episodes for my taste. The angsty periods the couples went through didn't make it all that better. However...

Yeah, I'm gonna give you this one. Especially that DP example; good lord, even the freaking bad guy of the episode was concerned over the relationship! He's doing evil, he shouldn't have the time for shipping!

I always laugh when people say that LOIS CAN DO SO MUCH BETTER THAN PETER. And yet, Lois is not exactly a prize or queen herself. Lois is in fact just as bad as Peter is and in many ways WORSE. Lois isn't exactly wife OR mother of the year material. In fact, she is a horrible mother and wife as well. Which I guess makes her and Peter perfect for each other.

My picks mainly good ones that other people around talking about:

1. Tokiko/Kazuki, BUSO RENKIN - Why? I'll tell you why. A Shonen anime with a romantic pairing that's NOT ambiguous. None of this starry eyed nonsense like in the author's previous story, RUROUNI KENSHIN. When Tokiko and Kazuki are together it's like RAWR. Kazuki is an idealistic but brave confident and also rather goofy young man. Tokiko is a straight laced serious stoic and no nonsense warrior woman and a tsundere. Yet she can't help but melt when she's with Kazuki. It's a very sweet pairing. And also there weren't any doubts about it at the end. It was concrete and definitive.

2. Kaname/Sousuke, FULL METAL PANIC - Hilarious and yet perfect. There's so many great unspoken things and there is nothing conventional about it.

3. The Joker/Harley Quinn, BTAS; TNBA; JL/JLU; BATMAN BEYOND - Once again, they are perfect for each other.
