A quick look through my rateourmusic collection has revealed to me that the only album i've rated five stars from 1991 was the underrated and absolutely AMAZING Gish, by the Smashing Pumpkins.
What a great record! One of my favorites for sure.
I played the sh*t outta Nevermind growing up and Blood, Sugar, Sex, Majik wasn't very far behind. Other than that...I've listened to Sailing the Seas of Cheese on occasion, but the rest of what I see people linking I never really got into much, and haven't had any desire to since.
Oh, definitely spiderland. That album is epic. it started two of my favorite genres, math rock and post rock.
with out slint, there would be no don caballero or battles or mogwai :S
I absolutely do want to see your list of favorite alternative rock albums of 1991
I didn't remeraber this is from '91. It goes in my list for sure. All the best alternative/shoegaze/britpop/whatever came out '89 - '92 so it's hard to keep mental track of specific release years.
Yea - it's kind of hard to believe. Unless were talking about 'banned from K Mart' or something that album cover is pretty tame compared to a lot of albums released in '91.
I came up with this lot for my favourite albums of 1991.
You may argue amongst yourselves as to if any of them quality as 'alternative'...

Here.., are listed a few of my personal favorite Alternative Rock albums & singles released in 1991, as close to the Aternative Rock, label/genre that Is, of my own opinion & personal taste to preference.
A lot of these are great choices but I still don't get the appeal of Spiderland at all, every time I try to give it another chance I'm bored out of my wits.
Definitely an amazing album, and I spent a good portion of 1991 wearing it the **** out.
It reminRAB me in a way of MJ's Off the Wall in that it's the under-appreciated masterpiece that really served as the foundation of one egomaniac's delusions of grandeur and was subsequently followed by a long string of popular and lauded albums that really could not compare.
