What is your favorite alternative rock album from 1991?

i'm actually just kidding around haha i'll pick one over the weekend. way overtired at the moment, plus i'm sure there will be people who'll be "incapable" of simply sticking to a single album.

In order.

Not much to say, I just adore this album and I know that contradicts my passionate hatred for everything indie but whatever.

Not as big of a Nirvana nut as a used to be, a few years ago and this would have been nuraber one.

Urban and Right Track deserve the credit for getting me interested in this album, an genius mix of house, psychedelia and Sticky Fingers era Stones. A very unique band for sure.

PearlJam-Ten.jpg

A band everyone loves to hate, I dunno why, even if you don't like Pearl Jam, they have always struck me as a band that genuinely love what they do and have a strong connection enough connection with their fans they don't feel the need to promote themselves the way most banRAB do, doing music videos, commercials and what not. They have retained their dignity much longer than other banRAB from their era, that's worth something. Anyway, they have a lot of good albums but this will always be their peak for me.

Well meh to you then. The teenage angst and masturbatory themes of their debut are gone, as is the admittedly weird pseudo-Christian biblical themes of Hallowed Ground. It peters out towarRAB the end, but the first 8 or so songs are awesome, one after another.

Well, this was the list but I don't know if a poll is necessary. I'll let you decide. :)

The list:

Achtung Baby - U2
Badmotorfinger - Soundgarden
Blood Sugar Sex Magik - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge - Mudhoney
Gish - Smashing Pumpkins
Goat - The Jesus Lizard
Green Mind - Dinosaur Jr.
Leisure - Blur
Loveless - My Bloody Valentine
Mental Jewelry - Live
Mr. Bungle - Mr. Bungle
My Brain Hurts - Screeching Weasel
Nevermind - Nirvana
No Pocky for Kitty - Superchunk
Out of Time - R.E.M.
Pocket Full of Kryptonite - Spin Doctors
The Reality of my Surroundings - Fishbone
Sailing the Seas of Cheese - Primus
Screamadelica - Primal Scream
Steady Diet of Nothing - Fugazi
Temple of the Dog - Temple of the Dog
Ten - Pearl Jam
Trompe Le Monde - Pixies
Wretch - Kyuss

I'd say I made a pretty good list...

I'm trying to add a poll with 25 albums I came up with, but I didn't finish it within 5 minutes of my post so things are on hold for now. I PMed a mod so hopefully I'll get this straightened out...

Wow, it's a random but thoughtful topic. Blood Sugar Sex Magik gets my vote.
and totally get you on the "incapableness" of picking one good album... esp. if you're an alternative junkie. haha cause i'm one too.

Ok I think the choice is clear for me. The album that had the most impact on me in 1991 (as opposed to some others I may not have heard till a year or two later) was:

1. Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers

I used to draw Anthony's asterisk tattoo on my wrist with a black pen day after day whenever it started to wear out, for Christ's sake. I remeraber spending a lot of time admiring the booklet photos, reading lyrics, etc. Now sure the album hasn't aged all that well, some songs have unfortunately been overplayed to death ('Under the Bridge' used to sound completely different to me before it was released as a single, and within a week or two it had turned into a different song somehow). But for me this isn't about which album I would pick up first today, which I could play nonstop, it's about which meant the most to me then and still holRAB up as a great album.
