What is wrong with this black fish?

I live in MI USA and i was walking on the pier and i saw this dead small black fish and then I'm walking again and there's another dead one!

So I'm coming back around to the land side of the pier and i just want to put the dead fish in the water so it won't rot and some guy fishing says to me "Don't put that fish in the lake." and i do respect my elders so i leave it alone but then i was talking to someone and he said i should have asked why. I FORGOT TO ASK WHY!!!

Please tell me why this poor black fish is bad and why ppl want it dead please research on it. I don't know why but it just isn't right to kill a fish for no reason.Thanks
 
There r many types of black fishes which can die for many reasons, if its a mass destruction then it may the pollution or toxin substances.
 
Dude, there's no inside matter to this! Obviously the guy didn't want it to go in the water because it would rot and pollut the water... Also, ur not very descriptive on this.....They're are millions of different species of black fish in the animal kingdom....ur just overthinking this.....
