I have a 92 toyota paseo. Its an automatic transmission. Lately I've heard a rumbling sound when my car is idling, or accelerating. Once my rpms go above 2500, it stops. It sounds like an old 70's car that has trouble going fast. Or a manual car that is about to stall. It has affected my speed on the freeway, too. I have first, second, third, and overdrive. When I'm in what would be third or overdrive, I can't go any faster. My rpms go over 3000, sometimes 4200, but my speed doesn't grow. Eventually it kicks in. Is this a transmission problem? I think it is, but I don't know much about what the transmission does. Where my exhaust pipe meets the engine used to rattle and move. My mechanic said it could be that, and he welded it in so it wouldn't move. But the vibration still happens. Does anyone know what it could be, or more importantly, how much it would be to fix. Any info helps, thanks!
