My car has been sitting for a few months due to transmission problems, but today I tried to start it, and the gear in the starter turns, but it doesn't engage into the engine. I think that's how it works. Am I going to have to buy a new starter or is there some way to fix the one I've got, preferably free and easy? Back before my transmission gave me problems, I had to take it to the shop for starter problems, but I think they just replaced a wire that had been burnt or broken or something.
