For a while now, my Firebird has somewhat acted like it didn't want to start but usually has. It was worse last winter when it started. It got a bit better with spring and summer but has gotten worse lately. When I would drive the dash and headlights would dim, the heating/cooling blower would nearly stop blowing, and the stereo would get quiter and then all would return to normal.
It seemed the worse when I would accelerate from a dead stop. Now, the car barely starts and tends to reset the clock and start a CD over. I doubt it is related but the stereo also changes volume randomly and if I press mute the music won't even stay muted a second.
The car would not start the other day so I drove another car and assumed it was the battery. It was started and also put on a charger. That was roughly a week ago and the voltometer is still reading out a constant charge of 13...I think?
What could cause this? I would think if the alternator was bad the battery would be draining. The battery has kept a constant charge for a week and last winter the battery wasn't that old and I had a similar problem. Is it the alternator? A short? Bad grounding of a wire? Any ideas? Also, would an OBD II diagnostic help reveal the problem at all?
