What is wrong with my Playstation 3 HDMI sound?

The a/v works on my tv. When i try to plug in my hdmi though it has a problem. It changes the settings to the highest quality(visuals), but there is no sound. I go to settings and try to manually change the sound but it stills does not work. I have tried two different HDMI cables and neither work.
What should i do?
Also, I don't want to have to send it in, I just did that for a different problem.
