what is wrong with my htc hero?

my htc hero phone (by sprint) is acting up, not only is it slow as anything, but everytime i turn it off, it send a trillion txts messages that ive sent in the past . ex: hey whats up? (30 min later...turns phone off and on) heyy whats up? its very strange. also ive tried to delete contacts COMPLETLY from my phone and it wont work. help plzz
