What is wrong with my Ford Explorer's air conditioner?

I have a Ford Explorer. It has been extremely hot lately (over 100 degrees). The other day, I drove to the Post Office, and the air conditioner worked fine. The next day, I got into the Explorer, and the air conditioner didn't turn on.

I heard a little sound when I turned the AC to the "Max" setting -- but no air blew. I tried turning the knob to every setting (including outside air), but no air would blow at all.

Before this, the air conditioner worked fine. The compressor didn't seem to be going out at all. In fact, I checked the refridgerant level a few weeks ago, and it was well within the "full" zone.

What icould be the problem?
Do you think that this could be a belt that broke or came loose?
Is there a fuse that controls the AC?

I do hear a little sound when I turn the AC on. It doesn't sound like an electrical sound, but more like a compression sound. Unfortunately, it doesn't blow air at all.

Please help! Thanks!

:-)
