What is wrong with my betta fish?

well i have a male betta in a 5 gallon fish tank with filter and heater. I've had him for quite a while but i recently noticed something wrong. He has this big bump right on top of his lip. It looks big and right near his lip his skin is VERY red (he's an orange color). He doesn't swim like he used to and he hardly eats anymore. I think he doesn't eat due to the pain because he does go up when he sees food but he won't eat it. He also just stays at the bottom of the tank in his little cave. It is very difficult to make him swim. Is there something i can use to treat him or is he going to go with fish jesus soon?? :( Someone PLEASE help me!!!!!
 
well it is an infection, and honestly they do not live long. Go to your local pet store and describe your fish. Also, i wonder if heating is really necessary for the tank, as 5 gallons is a lot for one fish. But do NOT buy anymore to live with him if he is infected. Perhaps a smaller tank? They will know at you local pet store.
