In my 99 Astro, after replacing the battery, the stereo would not power on. The clock still runs, but I believe is on a different fuse, though all have been checked and are fine. I thought it was originally Theftlock by GM since it's an RDS type. Neither "LOC" or "INOP" come on either. I tried to put in a Pioneer CD player model DEH 2500MP, using both the GM aftermarket harness and the Pioneer harness. I am pretty sure my wiring is correct, since all colors match except for the orange and blue which aren't used since the pioneer doesn't have a dim option and no remote wire is needed. The problem is that the speakers crackled, (the 2nd time I tried to install the day after rechecking the wiring and retaping) and it smelled like something burning and smoke appeared. The headunit gets extremely hot to the point of untouchable in just one second, and the smoke continued til I took the keys out.
Is there a short somewhere?
The antenna cord wouldn't have anything to do with it would it?
The 2nd time installing - it was touching metal, but both harness ground wires were connected to each other so it should have been grounded. Tomorrow I am going to check and see if the deck works in my car, since I have a pioneer deck in currently. However, I think it's something in the van since the stock stereo did not power on. Please help! Thanks!
