I noticed a couple weeks ago that the temperature guage was a little higher than usual, but still in the normal range so I didn't worry about. I made sure to keep checking the coolant and keeping it filled. The coolant was leaking slightly, but a very small leak (only 4 or 5 drops). Today on my way to work the temperature guage jumped up to red and the car started making a rattling noise when I would accelerate or stop at red lights. It sounded like a diesel engine. When I got to work I opened the hood and put my hand on the engine. It was warm from being driven, but it wasn't hot enough to burn my hand. I made an appointment to get my car looked at but the garage cant look at it until Wednesday. I decided to try and drive home. I checked the oil before leaving work and noticed it was low, so I added a quart and it was fine. I got halfway home and it started making the noise again and the temperature guage jumped up again. When I finally got home I noticed steam coming out from under the engine and the top of the engine looked wet, like something exploded on it. The car had a blown head gasket a few years ago before I bought it, so I always made sure to keep the coolant full. Is it possible that the head gasket has blown again? I hope not, I can't afford to get it fixed.
