what is wrong with my 90 chevy cavalier?

Just a guess here without actually seeing the car, is the torque converter lock-up switch has failed. You have an automatic with an overdrive, with a lock up converter. The switch has failed, not allowing the converter to disengage when you are stopped. A properly working switch locks up at about 35 to 40 mph for better gas mileage, and less slippage. If it is a new transmission, take it back to the shop that built it, they should honor it under warranty.

1990 chevy cavalier runs great transmission shifts great when cold warms up to normal running tem perature stalls engine at some stops bogs down engine. I put it in park and it cranks put it in reverse or drive immediately shuts off. Put it in nuetral push the car 20-30 feet crank it up and put it in drive and it goes until next stop. Has new transmission fluid and filter. Transmission is metric. what could be problem or problems and do you have any solutions?
