What is wrong with my 1994 Ford Tempo?

I have a 1994 Ford Tempo that will crank but wont turn over. The thing has a spark and fuel is getting to tue cylinders, but it just wont start?!? My girlfriends dad, who is a mechanic, told me that it most likely has timing problems, but one of the asian cooks i work with told me that it is most likely the high tension cable, cord, ext...? He just said High Tension somthing? What do you think? Help me get it running again!!!
 
An engine needs three things to run. 1) Spark 2)Fuel 3)Timing
I would trust the mechanic over the cook.
 
id listen to the mechanic, tell the cook to stick to his trade, the mech,dont tell him how to cook.
