what is wrong with my 1976 ford pickup?

1976 ford pickup 360 motor low on transmission fluid so i poured 4 quarts in. when i stop and go it starts slipping. when i give it gas it slips some. what could it be
 
Pull out you dip stick, and smell it. If it smells burnt, change the transmission fluid and filter. Use a product like Lucas transmission fluid, with your transmission Fluid. Otherwise it shop tear down time
 
hello,sounds like the rear seal is leaking,and if its low on fluid the transmission will slip,but if its not low of fluid and its still slipping its gonna be your modulelator valve,not working properly,look under the vehicle after you put fluid in and see if its leaking from the front or the back of the transmission that will tell you which seal is leaking.i hope this helps...
 
could be you need to change the fluid and filter. it could be you need to change the seals. it could be your transmission is junk and by the sounds of it you need a new transmission.
