When I give the throttle a quick twist my bike stalls - I quickly let off and it returns to normal idle. So, I very gradually increase the throttle, but it still sounds rough, with a little popping from the right exhaust.
I own a Yamaha XS650 that is now a 750. I'm learning how to work on it myself, but I must research every time there is a new problem.
The most recent problem was a lean condition, demonstrated by the bikes crackling noises and loss of power around 5k rpm, the high idle after warming up, and the appearance of the spark plugs. I discovered that there was fluid in both of the bowl floats and replaced them with new ones, ensuring that the tabs were bent identically to the old ones (albeit, I eyeballed it). I believe bad floats would also explain the overflowing of my vacuum petcocks. Anyway, the day after installing the new parts I gassed it up and didn't even make it out of my parking spot.
How do I fix this?
If my floats are the problem, then can I take them out and bring them to someone who can put adjust them to spec?
