A young woman says she learned a sexual encounter with a fellow college student may have been part of a game in which college men compile lists of women, called "prey" to have sex with, with various scoring scales based on their attractiveness and perhaps other factors.
She asked if this was cause for concern or something that should be reported. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AloiHOg4Yc39HILK6njdKe3SDH1G;_ylv=3?qid=20100826172754AAvqs0e
I find the answers astonishing.
Most answers discouraged reporting this activity to anyone.
Most answers were insulting, derisive, or mocking.
Many answers presumed to offer legal opinions that "this is not illegal", opinions which are based on nothing but wishful thinking.
Many answers seem unusually defensive, "well, feminists haven't taken this from us yet".
I don't understand.
Why are answerers so quick to discourage reporting something like this?
Why are answerers so ready to offer bogus legal opinions on this matter. The question was not even "should I call the police" but "should it be reported". She could have meant reported to the school nurse, to the school paper, to the greek council, to her sorority, to Oprah...so why the flurry of "It's perfectly legal" answers?
I'm genuinely curious.
