I partially agree w/u, Candy. However, prisons r a lucrative business. They actually charge a fee for going to jail... and even make the inmates buy the necessities that r at outrageous prices- like soap. One state actually decided to build a new prison to house the terrorists to "improve their economy."
We r a greedy nation. *sigh*
As far as treatment goes, b/c they treat ppl like dogs, they will begin to act like dogs.
my hubby got 3 years for a od charge-my neighbor got 2 weeks for rape. hmmmm whats wrong with the usa-people who hurt others get nothing-people who hurt themselves get under covers/jail/prison time. they jails are over full from under age drinking-pot-not paying child support etccc. while the rapist/abusers/child molesters are out. they sit in jail doing nothing while we pay taxes n the citys are paying state workers to get trash off the street n plant trees etc. get the slap on hand people out of jail n have them do city service on their time-like 10 hours a week etc (if they dont jail as option) get the child molesters in jail and on the bracelet so they know where they are. the system.....my hubby is on probation again-long story short here-his co-worker was on vacation when the copper price went up-he called my hubby to go in his garage n take to to recycling center n he could keep 100$ for doing it--he got surrounded by cops-the guy turned him in-we knew him -he goes to hubbys work to get scrap metals. my hubby went to jail -ended up with receiving stolen property-co-worker stole it from work-hubby got fired-n on probation for 3 years-today he went to work -last minute emergency(storm)-up north for 3 days to fix a house-i called his p.o to tell him--my hubby now has a warrant out for not telling him in person-he will go to jail when he gets back. what else can be ran wrong.

It's broken top to bottom. How do I know? 1) I live 30 miles from Philly if you watch the news about what has gone on in Philly and Pa. with the juvenile system the adult parole board and on and on you can see it's BROKEN. 2) Have a family member in the system now in halfway house and he has a job working for me but they will not allow him to work for me because they say "That if they were to call to check up on him I would lie to them." WTF like I'm going to put myself in the position to lose my business and be locked up also. Don't get me started. Halfway house is privately owned and if they don't have heads they don't have money. Turned down his first home plan and if he does not get approved for second plan will get transfered to another for 90 more days. Our government is broken in more ways then just the Judicial system.
It's a nightmare. The US is dealing with its social problems by locking up more of its citizens than any nation in history. There is no longer any pretense of rehabilitation, education or life outside of prison, so once released, many find no way to live but crime and end up back in the system again. It's a tragedy and it's bankrupting the country.
