The Honda Civic is a front-wheel drive budget compact. That makes it about as tempting a performance car as the Scion Xb. Hey, why not just buy a Toyota Yaris for $9,000 and drop a $120,000 helicopter turboshaft in it?
Sure, you can get the Honda to whatever HP you feel like thanks to the maddening amount of mods out there (thanks mostly those peeps who know nothing about cars), but anything over 250HP in a front-wheel drive car (other than a car like a Lexus ES, which was never meant to race, but is quite heavy) is downright dangerous. Is it any wonder that the majority of single-car speed-related teenager-driven accidents involve a Civic? Sure they feel sound and planted, until that one fateful day you understeer into a telephone pole, and are waiting for the fire department to Jaws of Life you out.
I once bought a '92 Civic to learn manual on, with the intention of selling after three months or so. Seemed cheaper in the long run than getting formal training. The guy I sold it to bought it because the Acura engine and rims he had in his previous Civic, WHICH HE WROTE OFF, would fit in it.

Add to that the rediculous spoilers and exhaust tiips, which actually increase drag and decrease horsepower, respectively... I just don't get it.
I spent $31,500 (Canadian dollars) on my brand-new LSD-equipped Mustang GT, and for about 3k I could get it over 400HP and 450lb/ft, another 3k for some improved suspension bits would harden it up. This in a five-star safety rated vehicle. Oh, and if you're gonna knock the Mustang, you'd better know what an LSD is. I agree the live-axle it came with before was garbage, but the LSD changes the whole car.
Anyway, the Civics. If you gotta go import, and you're gonna drop $30k souping up a civic, why didn't you just buy an STi or an Evo?
