I am a 24 yo male. It started this past thursday. It looked like the average pimple (I get one every now and then). As usual I popped it, thinking it would go away in a couple days. One day later I awake to feel this rather odd pain coming from the same spot. The small little pimple sized lump is now the size of a golf ball. It is not red or anything. As for pain it was like a 2 on a 1-10 scale. I let it be for a day. Next morning it has doubled in size, and now my skin is actually stretching because it bulges so much. I decide to squeeze it. This brown semi-thick fluid comes out. It takes nearly 10 minutes to empty. I thought it was over... only to notice the next day it is back and this time even bigger.

Well... I guess I need to make a doctors appointment on my day off Wednesday. Anyone know what the heck it is?

Forgot to mention it is under my left arm, next to my arm pit. I don't know if it is coincidence either but I have been a little sick since as well.

Wow...it's good you got in to see the doctor quickly. When will you have the surgery?

Fistulas start as an abscess...It's good it has a way out at this point.

Did he at least give you any antibiotics?

No antibiotic... which my father questioned as well. This Friday I am going to a facility known as 'Immediate Care' Its like a hospital but for minor medical neeRAB such as this.

Ha.. just realized even the nurse that saw me prior to the doctor said I would at least be getting antibiotics.

It's good you're getting care so quickly..maybe that's the reason for no antibiotics, but I'm sure you'll be on ones afterward.

Did the doctor at least take a culture?

You must be in agony....hope all gets dealt with completely and your recovery is swift.

Quincy,

Black salve is a draining salve. You put it on such areas and it "pulls" the gunk out or whatever is in there. I used it when my son had a lump on his foot in his younger years.

I was afraid that the damn thing was going to fill up again, but thankfully it is almost completely drained. The pain has finally subsided.

My mother said there is a chance that I could be getting more of these abscesses more often... is that true?

Well... before I could even get it drained, it drained itself. Late this morning I could see the puss covered hair that caused this abscess, and sure enough with the aid of some black salve it came out completely. It was so packed I didn't even need to squeeze. I will leave it at that, I do not want to gross anyone out. But on a 1-10 scale of being gross, it was an 8.

Sweet relief.

Now I am throwing some some antibiotic creme on there.

Yes, could be....but be very careful with the exudate because if it's staph or strep it'll be highly..HIGHLY...contagious.

Whatever cloths you used to clean it up should be washed in hot water with some bleach.

Be careful with touching it as well as clothes you wear over top. Keep it covered.

The other thing I was going to say is it could be part of a fistula...do you have another area in the near vicinity that is hurting you ?

Please keep us posted as to what's happening with it.

Hi...sweet relief...I can imagine what that means!

What is black salve? was it a blocked follicle that you pulled out the hair?

I hope that you were careful with what came out. You will find out soon enough if it all came out. Some can continually refill.

Will you keep your appointment to make sure it's completely dealt with?

q

Yes, it is true. You need to go on the to surgery and get it cleaned out if it is warranted. And also ask about an antibiotic to take to help rid your body of the infection that's running thru it.

My father believes it is a boil and I think it is a Staph infection.

I woke up today and it is extremely sore.

I have a doctors appointment today so I will get an idea of whats going on.

It's possible, and if you do get them continually, they could form into fistulas and find another way out to drain...noting like having the body form tunnels through the skin/muscles.

Please go to the surgery and deal with it properly.

Keep us posted!

Had the appointment today but it was not all good news as I was hoping for. The doctor took a look and his first reaction was "that's really, really big." He told me it was an abscess. Said based on the location it was probably from a sweat gland that got plugged, thus causing an infection.

I have to go to a hospital and get it removed.
