"Bored teen boy enters Fathers laboratory and steps into experimental time machine, goes back to 'cave men' era. Most of the book thinks Dad will rescue him; gets adopted by tribe and is trained in hunting and survival. Finally (years later) becomes resigned to staying,falls in love and is about to be married when he is snatched back to present day, where Dad is waiting. Only a couple of hours have passed for Dad, who can't understand why his son has aged so much, and is long haired and bearded. Son is devastated, crying (he will never find his love again) and raises his axe."
