The above link will take you to a Google maps image at "Tuora-Khaya" (whatever that is).

If the link above doesn't work, merely enter "Russian Federation, Tuora-Khaya" into the search field at Google maps.

If you look just to the northeast of Tuora-Khaya, you will see 4 long rectangles, 2 red and 2 gray, leading into the ocean. These rectangles are very long - like a mile or more long! From the rectangles are some very straight lines (necessarily man-made) that lead inland several miles to the middle of nowhere where they fade out. Please, what is this? Is this an airstrip or something?

Thanks in advance for your genius.
Scanning a few miles east, I'm finding more straight lines that seem to be scratched into the sea and land that look pretty much the same. WHAT IS IT??

Did you scan these photos? I scan aerial photos for making ortho maps like you see on google earth, and I really don't recognize what these features are.

My first guess is that maybe what you looking at is really just an anomaly of the scanned film, and not really a feature of the land. For instance north of the leftmost rectangle, you can see an obvious anomaly in the water where they blended from one photo to another photo that has more reflection on the surface of the water. You know what those rectangles look like to me... photo tape! It looks like somebody accidentally cut the film with a razor blade, and then tried to tape it back together. I can't believe the owner of this map would pay thousands of dollars to publish something blundered as badly as that! Sometimes accidents happen though, and it's hard to get new up to date maps because the weather does allow for quality imagery to be captured very frequently.

If it's actually a real land feature we're looking at, then your guess is as good as mine. Power lines, solar reflectors, oil pipes, railroad, roadways, fence lines, anything!
