what i can remember of the movie.....
The main character is a girl, still in high school (probably jr or sr)
her friend is a black female
at the school she meets a guy who twards the end becomes like her boyfriend.
the girl moves back home to live with her father, who has a 2 story house with an attic.
when she arives home for first time in a long time she notices that the attic light is on, but when she looks back its off.
and when she asks her father if anybody goes up there, he tells her no.
at the house is a maintenance/ handy man guy who is an old family friend, possiable 5-10 years older than the main character.
the black girl ends up getting killed and her body is found in a river/gutter thing close to the house, and suspision is brought to the new boy she likes.
twards the end, the dad gets a letter, or a notice saying that he has paid a bill late and is going to be punished for it, and he is extreamly mad about this because he always pays on time and even early. while he is at the bill place fixing the problem the killer(maintenance guy(family friend) begins to attack the main character.
some info about the house, the walls of the house u can walk in-between and in the attic there is a secret room that if i remember right is a shrine kinda thing to the main characters mom( who is dead) i also believe in this room are levers or some sort that control random things around the house, like the doorbell...
while all this is happening the father comes home and is knocked out while the killer looks for the girl, the boyfriend also comes to appoligies for something i believe, and he and the girl end up killing the killer....

it was a big movie when it came out, i know it was only big for like maybe a week and did come out in amc movie theators...if anybody could help me find this movie that would be amazing!!!
