I remember reading this book in high school but I can't remember it's name. I think it was a true story about a young boy (maybe Turkish) who lives through a holocaust.
I'm pretty sure its NOT Night. In this book, some of the young boy's brothers are shot in killed by soldiers in his backyard. That night the young boy's uncle or dad gives the young boy's mother and sisters veils of poison so they don't live through possible rape. The young boy and his remaining older brother escape and run off together. Later the older brother dies of illness i think. Finally the young boy lives in a landlords barn and makes a relationship with a young girl who the landlord rapes from time to time.
