I read it about three years ago and really enjoyed it! I'm pretty sure it is written by a female author and that the cover of the paperback edition was pink.
BASIC STORYLINE: A young woman feels that nothing in her life is going right... then she meets a mysterious old lady who gives her a feather that can grant wishes! So she goes about making general 'improvements' to her life, including making her handsome dark-haired neighbour, James, fall in love with her. But it doesn't exactly turn out the way she expected, and eventually realises she is actually in love with her good-looking blonde flat-mate, Gabe. But he had moved out a short while beforehand because he was in love with her (she didn't realise), and couldn't stand seeing her with James. So then she has to travel to another part of the country to find him (I'm pretty sure the story was set in England). When she finally catches up with him he is in the middle of his act as a stand-up comedian and even though she hates stand-up comedy, she watches the show through until the end. And then they get together
I think that is quite a good description of the novel... so if anyone has any idea who the author is or what the title of the book is I would be VERY grateful!
Also, it was really funny! Written in a similar style to Sophie Kinsella (Confessions of a Shopoholic) and Helen Fielding (Bridget Jones' Diary).
