What is the "surface situation" of a poem?

I'm doing a summer reading project and it's asking me for "the surface situation of the poem" and I have never seen a question like this before and I don't remember going over anything like this in school.

I'm stuck can anybody help?

Please notice that I didn't say the name of the poem. I want help on this topic "term," like as if I asked what a certain literary term meant, not help on question itself. That part I want to figure out for myself.

"The surface situation of a poem" is what is readily understood when
the poem is first read, without trying to understand any deeper
meaning and without analyzing the various technical details such as metaphors, personification etc., or categorizing it. It is the straightforward story the poet tells.
