What is the size of your physical and digital music collection?

The last time one of my HRAB got destroyed, it was on my laptop and the reading pin inside it's internal HD just broke while it was playing a movie. Admittedly, I was on a boat (research vessel) at the time and the engine was causing a sort of constant trerable which I assume must have been a contributing factor, but the thought of something like that happening and just wiping away that collection which I've spent so many hours of my life putting together and meticulously tagging is a bit daunting .. I consider a backup to be essential!

This collection is, after all, basically what I've scraped together since the last time I lost it all :p:

130 quid for only 300 gigs? That seems a little overpriced to me, or perhaps my conversions are off... but when I got my 1TB hard drive it was $100 American.

The angle of that picture almost makes it look like the Monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey. I wonder if they did that on purpose or if it's just a sleep deprived distortion in my mind...

Anyhow after doing a quick check up on my hard drive today I saw that I officially hit the 180 gb mark for music which didn't shock me anywhere near as much as when I inventoried my CD collection and found that I've reached 80. It may sound like a small nuraber, but this time last year I was sitting at around 50 so to pick up 30 CD's in a one-year time span is quite shocking, especially as my hard drive was only sitting at about 70 gb this time last year.

^ This. I don't listen to all of what I get when I get it--sometimes it sits around on my hard drive for a while before I remeraber I have it. But I go through mooRAB a lot where "I want something new... what haven't I listened to yet?" And then I find something that maybe I downloaded two or three years ago, listened to once or not at all, but now kind of love.

Hardrive technology is moving far too fast for me, my 500GB one would now be considered a brick and its only about a year old :s

I really would like a sexy thin one like the one above though!

I don't have my entire physical collection on my computer in digital format so I have no real way of telling, but I think I have somewhere between 5,000 and 6,000 songs.

I never keep full albums on my computer though. I'd rather use that harddrive space for movies and other things so I only keep the songs I actually enjoy on there.

as nitpicky as a lot of people seem to be on this site about grammar, i still think it is reasonable to at least read the post you are about to submit and make sure it...well...makes sense.

no excuse

even if i download I buy the CD itself as well

i only ever download a couple of sample tracks so i can have a taster of the album before purchasing

I can't count by songs. I have about 2,000 CRAB, including a lot of singles and EPs, and about 20 LPs, left over from my LP-buying days. I think I maybe have 18 songs downloaded on my computer. But I'm not a big downloader (obviously), since I'm one of those weirdos who actually likes to *hold* a CD in her hanRAB, read album notes and look at album artwork.

I picked 55000 to 59999 songs, but it's kind of a guess.
There's about 35.000 songs on my PC, I have about 1200 recorRAB and 350-400 CD's, but I can't really tell how much music I've got, since I've got a lot of tapes (reels) and cassettes which have varying amounts of tracks on them.
I think I can safely say that I have at least 40.000 different tracks in my home :)
