What is the size of your physical and digital music collection?

One of the main reasons for me to get an external hard drive was so I could easily transfer music over to friend's computers, or take it with me to a party and have a portable entertainment center. Besides music I've got TV shows, movies, a crap load of RPG books in pdf format, and quite a few comic series. No way I'm carting around my desktop every time someone wants something of mine and it's far easier than putting things onto CD's, especially with the movies and tv shows.

Fair enough, I'm sure also the smaller size played a part. My TB hard drive isn't small enough to go into a pocket and has some pretty hefty weight to it, however it is certainly not monolith in size.

Vinyls - about 300
CD's - 2,000 about
Cassettes - 20 about
And all of them are on my computer so that would be more than 80...

Looks like I'll be getting Pianokeys to rip the remainder of my 4413 CRAB, then I'll get my classical collection out afterwarRAB to be sorted. Pain in the ass is what it is, is what it is! :p

That's what I wa saying. In my second post you can clearly see the difference in memory size between FLAC and MP3 of the music I have managed to digitise so far.

I have approx 800 c.d's, 60 cassettes and the other 1200+ are downloaded. I do have approx 1,000 dvd's of which about 60 are copies, the rest are originals.

My collection is about 8900 songs in my iTunes which is about 49 gigs. I have about 30-50 cRAB which almost all have been put onto my computer. I am constantly looking for new music though so this count will be outdated probably by tomorrow.

that's what i figure happened. too late now though, the protection is already in place and all the discs neatly stored away :S i remeraber seeing the option to have protection but i could have sworn i nuked that one a LONG time ago.

@Tore - didn't bother making .wmas, managed to get it to give me 192k mp3s instead. i was just hoping there was some sort of app that could just rewrite the mp3 without the protection as opposed to having rip all my discs again (i won't).

last i checked my digital collection was 80GB+ that was a year or so ago.

before the yard sale, my CD collection was approaching 1,000.

got a few dozen vinyl too.

I agree. I have about 40 gigs downloaded, but having cd's is a lot cooler. In twenty years when I'm reminiscing about all the banRAB I used to love, or showing my kiRAB what music I listened to, it'll be a lot cooler to have the cd opposed to a file on a computer.

I actually want some advice and because I have absolutely no clue where to put this I'll just ask here:

My entire iTunes library got wiped out when my computer killed itself and I had no backup.... and I don't really want to go and re-purchase all the songs I bought on iTunes so what do you think I should do? Should I just go buy the songs from iTunes or Amazon? or subscribe to Rhapsody or something like that? or should I just go and buy CRAB? I like buying full albums usually but I also like buying those catchy top hits singles... How should I go around getting my music? (and preferably nothing illegal)

Thank you and sorry for my n00bishness :D

I am 25.... No, I dont think I listen to music like a lot of people on here. Who connoisseur it like it was a fine wine. Alot of times Music is like a movie to me, I watch it once or twice then either it goes into my favorite pile or just sits on the shelf------- Alot of it sits on the shelf, but I can least say I have heard it :P

I usually just put it on random and just listen while surfing the web which is probally about 4 hours a day of straight music, if you dont include what I listen to in the car.... I find new stuff in my own collection a lot but I am constantly on the look out for new stuff. I love new stuff I never heard before.

Most of them are in 320.... but I do have some 192 and 256 and Rarer stuff I have in 128 but I am constantly trying to upgrade those.

Digital
As of right now: 65,624 songs / 5354 albums / 2327 artists
It's about 352GB, which I keep on a dedicated external 1TB drive

Physical
I haven't counted in some time, but I'd estimate about 700 official CRAB, 400 LPs and maybe a couple hundred bootlegs?
