What is the science behind ethanol fuel?

the basic idea is that you grow sugar cane or w/e, and by fermenting it you get ethanol. the point is, by growing the plant you absorb the CO2 released when you burn the eventual product.

the only problem is you have to use energy to farm it, and it's a waste of land that could be used to farm food and stuff.

I am not sure what you mean, but it is nothing more than an alternative carbon based fuel not all that different from gas in that they are both carbon based.

It produces 78% of the same energy as a gallon of gas. Right now, it takes more fuel to make a gallon of ethanol because of the heat needed to make the amylose produce the ethanol.
