What is the right size of pipe to run on my 2001 chevy blazer?

I have a 4.3l v6 vortec, I putting some new flowmaster 44s single in, dual out, should I go with 2.25", 2.5", or 3" I heard If I went an got to big of pipes the truck wouldnt run as good. So what size should I go with?
Please don't go & say get a v8, right now my truck is walking all over my friends trucks an they are v8s. I'm not saying its the fastest thing on the street, I just like having a fast v8.
 
i have a 99 blazer and have heard the same thing. I am going to go with the 2.5" pipe, because it sounds just as tough as the others.
