What is the recommended bicycle for leisure riding?

I'm not sure about the different types of bicycles and their uses. I'm probably just going to ride the bike for fun around the city, park... get me places hopefully, etc. I was wondering what brand I should buy or specifically which bike you would recommend! Preferably not too expensive.

I would recommend a cheap $100 bike from walmart. Most new riders quit riding in a few weeks. If you end up being very dedicated, upgrade to a $500 bike.
