What is the reason to buying new sports games each year?

I was wondering..why do we buy new sports games every year. Other than the obvious reasons;

-Online Play
-Newer Rosters
- somewhat updated play

But why do people like us, makes us spend out 50-60 dollars each year to buy New versions of madden, NBA Live, NHL, FIFA etc. etc.

Is there a point into buying it if you're only gonna play it for a year other than for those reasons? Discuss if you buy things annually.
