What is the reason for making the support chassis out of ceramic and not pure catalyst?

Chemistry homework question, only worth one mark so I'm sure it's prettybasic. I just don't get it.

Oh and
Why can you not use leaded petrol in an engine with a catalytic converter?
again a one mark question.
