What is the purpose of using Y!A as a forum to debate politics?

Is it even possible to have a civil discussion about politics on the internet anymore (was it ever that way)? Will the Y!A politics section ever be a respectful and reliable source of information? Or is this place destined to be a haven for trolls, radicals, and reactionaries for all time?
But with the question-answer format of Y!A, it doesn't really make any sense.
 
I'm still naive enough to believe that once in a while one person may actually pay attention to a reasoned argument.

this is not set up to be a debate...you need a give/take about a particular subject to be a real debate.
this is a vent, insult,and rant fest with a few good questions/answers interspersed.
