what is the purpose of Case Law?

YES. when laws are made, sometimes they can be interpretted in different ways. when that happens you go to court. or when both parties feel they are rigth, they go to court. Case law is used to see what the courts generally rule in cases that are similar to yours or ON POINT, with yours. For example if you wanted to sue for a slip and fall over a banana in a grocery store, you could look for a CASE that has as near to the same pertinent details in the case, and see what the judge said for that case. then if it fits your side, then you use it in court to PERSUADE the judge you are gith. it goes with statutes to help achieve uniformity in cases filed in courts.
