What is the proper name for the witch hunters in the olden days?

They must have been called SOMETHING other than witch hunter. Anyone knows what they were called? i found vampire hunters were sometimes called triste witches, anyone know what witch hunters were called?
 
They were called Witch Hunters. Remember, these people were not an intelligent sect moving with purposeful intent. They were village men drowning, beating, hanging and burning women who showed intelligence and foreign religious practices. They weren't anything special, so their title wasn't as fearsome as some modern tv programs would have you believe.
