I can't understand why WMG have a problem with people uploading so-called copyrighted stuff when the youtubers aren't making any money from it.

have the greedy b***ards not heard of FAN-ART?

it really annoys me.

Its like Valve (owner of Half-Life 1 and 2, among other games) saying,

"oh, you used our engine, textures, and sounds to make your mod, we own the copyrights, so therefore you cannot upload trailers for your mod"

which they don't, and in fact, if it weren't for modders in the 1970s and 80s, the games companies of today probably wouldnt exist as strongly.

In my opinion, they REALLY need to alter the copyright laws, the way they are now, its bollocks...

fair enough, people who make illegal copies of things, like piracy, i can understand being so strict on that.

but who does fan-art hurt?

anyways, what are your views?

I agree with you 100% because I have had several videos removed from YouTube because of so called "Copyright Infringement" but as you said, I am not making any money from it and if I have bought the CDs, whats the problem with me using a song from it in a fan video?

If by "fan-art" you are talking about people who make drawings of their favorite musician or album cover... that's one thing. But if you are referring to music video mash-ups with full length song tracks that can be easily stripped from the video using Forinside or Vixy, well that's different.

I've seen countless questions in this forum, asking how one can copy just the audio portion of a YouTube video into an MP3. I highly doubt that it's because people want to listen to Fred on their iPod.

This so called, fan-art is essentially distributing illegal copies of tens of thousands copyrighted songs each day. The people doing it... the "fans" as you call them, are actually hurting the very artists they are supposed to be supporting with their fan-art. Their actions are encourage others to steal the music rather than obtain it legally.

Imagine what would happen to your favorite group if the first CD they ever sold was bootlegged by every fan instead of being purchased. With the sales figures staying at exactly ONE CD, they'd never be able to produce another album and would disappear from the music scene. What kind of a way is that to show your support?

Fan-art is just a cover phrase for what is really going on. Fan-art should be art created by fans, not the artists work repackaged by a fan.

I hope that you are considering becoming an architect, because I need some house plans. I was thinking that if you put them online that I could simply steal a copy thereby not have to pay you for the work that you did. I'd build my house using your plans and say that it's a "tribute to your creative genius". Obviously, I'd also be giving away copies to anyone who wanted them too.

WMG always was on youtube.
They just were hanging low,
The deal is, everytime 1 person veiws a video, WMG gets money.
and WMG wanted more so now they are removing just about everything.
From animes, Fanarts, Movies, Made by you (with a recorder) and even songs they dont own.

WMG is removing at least a thousand videos a day

And some people believe youtube is now:
Themtube,
HuluTube
and even WMGtube

everytime WMG removes a video, They get Paid!!
So this is why WMG is removing mostly every video.
Even if they dont own the show or song.

It really SUCKS.
YouTube is changing to,
EVERYONE, IF YOUTUBE CHANGES ONE MORE TIME,
FIND A NEW VIDEO SHARING WEBSITE,
